Oliver Ackermann, lead singer and guitarist for A Place To Bury Strangers, is quite the creative mind. His explorations into sound and distortion have created the fuzz-driven music of A Place To Bury Strangers. But it was the mind of animator Karl Ackermann, brother of Oliver, who put this trippy visual take on “And I’m Up” together. Check out the beauty in the carnage after the jump.
Director Ackermann described the video and inspiration as such:
For me ‘And I’m Up’ is about coming of age. Burning toys seemed like it’d be an apt metaphor, fun and easy to shoot, and cool to look at. My idea was to create what I called an Action Figure Destruction Derby, an ultraviolent toy commercial, a non-CGI ‘Toy Story 4: Battle Royale.’
This video was the one that bassist Dion Lunadon hinted at in our interview with him this past summer. It surpassed all of our expectations, and is truly one of the more creative and interesting music videos we have seen this year. Catch APTBS on the west coast for their tour next month.
