We’ve been keeping tabs on Toronto rapper (ya, we mean rapper) Tasha the Amazon for quite some time. We’ve been getting word from our Toronto correspondents that she’s the real deal. She’s been a staple at the monthly parties thrown by Toronto record label The Truth, and our ears and eyes there tell us she has been an unstoppable live force. Tasha grew up in Kitchener-Waterloo, twin cities in Southern Ontario. Attending college brought her to Toronto, where she immediately got into the music production side of things in town. Over the next few years she would be involved in various projects as a musician and producer, but it wasn’t until the fall of 2012 that she started to focus on her solo material. She found a home and manager at the Truth Music Group run by Erikson Herman. Tasha has been amassing a crew of loyal fans and supporters since the release of FiDiYootDem, her debut mixtape from 2013. She recently enlisted Toronto based director and editor Colin G Cooper to put his creative touch on the music video for “Cry of the Warrior”, one of the standout tracks from FiDiYootDem. Cooper has put together an impressive piece of work, capturing the inherent beauty of the jungle and wilderness while also making you completely aware of the danger surrounding you. That’s the same feeling we get when listening to Tasha the Amazon- how about that?
