The Voodoo Music Experience is starting to leak their acts for the 2012 festival in City Park, New Orleans. Scheduled for that awesome party weekend right before Halloween (October 26-28), Voodoo is the last major US music festival of the year. Over its run that started back in 1999, Voodoo has always stood out as a more unique festival experience. A good 3-5 months after the other major festivals, Voodoo has consistently had a much different lineup than the Big 3 (Lolla, Bonnaroo, Coachella). This year is no different- Green Day and Neil Young will be near the top of the billing, and in the most exciting news yet, Tomahawk are set to return to the stage in New Orleans!
There’s not much information yet on the Tomahawk appearance, but this seems to confirm rumors and statements made by fearless leader Mike Patton that new Tomahawk material will be coming out in 2012. We are pretty stoked about this. We know that there were a lot of people flipping out over the At The Drive-In reunion at the festivals this year, but this is the type of return that gets me stoked. It’s been almost 5 years since Tomahawk’s Anonymous was released. As one of my favorite “experimental” albums ever, my personal bias runs deeps here- no doubt. The first 11 acts really mix it up though- with Green Day and Neil Young at the top. Skrillex seems to be the go-to electronic act right now, but hopefully that gets rounded out by some true electronic dance music heavyweights. Gary Clark Jr. also makes an appearance on the bill, solidifying him as this year’s breakout festival star.
Stay tuned to the Voodoo twitter handle and website which will be dropping new bands on a daily basis. If you haven’t been to NOLA, this is an awesome excuse to go. Make sure to give yourself a few days extra out there to truly experience one of America’s best cities.
