Best of Lollapalooza 2013: The Aftershows, Parties and Experience (Part 3)

Even though the bands stopped playing at 10 PM every night, Lollapalooza didn’t end there.  Aftershows and parties scattered throughout the city kept the music and vibe going late into the night in Chicago.  It’s hard to pick the very best of Lollapalooza when so many moments, artists, and events were great.  It’s even harder when the aftershows take on a life of their own at the festival!  It’s one of the things that makes Lollapalooza so unique and special as a festival.  It’s more than 10 hours at Grant Park, it’s a full experience embodied by the spirit of the festival and the city of Chicago.  Here is our Best of Lollapalooza 2013: aftershows, parties and experiences. Best of Lollapalooza 2013: Review in Pictures (Part 2)

Lollpalaooza took over downtown Chicago once again this past weekend for three days of live music from around the world.  Festival goers were treated to live music from new artists and bands that they had never heard of before, while old fans flocked to see their iconic bands play one of the big stages in North America.  Over 100,000 fans packed Grant Park in Chicago everyday to discover new music and appreciate the music they already knew they loved.  It was a gathering of music aficionados from around the world, and Lollapalooza delivered on a grand scale.  Music festivals are about the experience, about being there in the sun and at night, feeling the energy of the band and the crowd.  While pictures can’t do Lollapalooza 2013 the justice it deserves, it at least gives us somewhere to start when trying to convey just how amazing of a weekend of music it was. Best of Lollapalooza 2013: The Music Festival (Part 1)

Lollapalooza 2013 was the summer festival to be at this year- there’s no doubt about it, Lolla lived up to the immense hype it brought upon itself with a stellar lineup and pedigree to match.  When the 2013 lineup was officially announced on April 1st, Perry Farrell’s three day music festival was immediately tagged as the “must attend” summer event of 2013 by us.  The headliners were the perfect mix of current indie favorites and long-standing genre defining icons.  The bands throughout the day ranged from electronic solo acts, four piece folk bands, DJs in inflatable bubbles, surf punk rockers, to guitar slaying maniacs.  And it all took place with the gorgeous backdrop of downtown Chicago on one side and Lake Michigan on the other.  Picking the best from over 130 live acts was no easy task, any many more deserve to be recognized for their performances, but we still had to select the very best of Lollapalooza 2013.  Here we go!  (more…)

Rabbits Black Guide to Lollapalooza Preshows, Aftershows and Parties

Lollapalooza might be one of the best music festivals in the world with it’s deep and diverse lineup, iconic leader and rich history, and amazing location within the heart of one of America’s greatest cities.  The downtown Chicago location provides gorgeous backdrops to the stages, a lively atmosphere surrounding the festival, easy access to the festivities, and of course a noise ordinance.  Every headliner has to stop by 10 PM, and while that might seem like a super bummer, it’s actually one of the best things about the festival.  The Lollapalooza aftershows and parties are the best of any American music festival.  Don’t believe us?  There’s over 50 preshows and aftershows to choose from starting Wednesday night and not ending to early in the morning on Monday.  We went through every aftershow and picked the 10 that you have to be at. A guide for Californians attending Lollapalooza in Chicago

Lollapalooza is consistently one of the premier music festivals in North America.  With it’s unique location at Grant Park in the heart of Chicago, Lollapalooza is one of the only major music festival in the country that actually takes place within the true metropolitan area of a major city.  With rockstar visionary Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction as the founder and organizer of the festival, Lollapalooza has always attracted an eclectic mix of rock, electronic, and indie.  Lollapalooza was friendly to the Electronic Dance Music scene way before many of the festivals that now embrace it.  On a yearly basis Farrell recruits arguably the best headliners of any festival.  This year is no different, with the state-side return of Nine Inch Nails, Mumford and Sons, and the only summer festival appearance by The Cure.  Lollapalooza is a must-attend for music fans around the country, but how can Californians make it out to Illinois to get in on the fun?  We have everything you need right here in our guide for Californians traveling to Lollapalooza. Lollapalooza 2013 lineup is the best of the summer music festivals

Lollapalooza 2103 is four months away, but the excitement level is already through the roof.  Lollapalooza announced it’s 2103 lineup this morning, and it features two major acts that you won’t see at any other festival this year.  The Cure, gracing the Lollapalooza festival for the first time ever, and the return of Nine Inch Nails.  The lineup is rounded out by Mumford and Sons, The Killers and Phoenix at the top- three bands that you can pretty see at any festival.  But deep in the lineup are some Rabbits Black favorites- Crystal Castles, IO Echo and Wavves.  The lineup is huge and it packs the most wow factor out of any of the US festivals announced this year.  We got the full lineup and also a breakdown on what days they will be playing.
