Look, we can admit when we miss something awesome. It happens. We get hundreds of e-mails, tweets, Facebook messages and the rest a day. It’s hard going through all of that! But that doesn’t mean we can’t go back and find some cool stuff that you really need in your life. Take this video from Black Box Revelation for example. “Love Licks” is one of our most favorite tracks from the Belgian duo ever, and it comes from the stellar 2010 album Silver Threats. Black Box Revelation plays in San Francisco and Los Angeles this month with The Sheepdogs in what is shaping up to be our Show of the Month. We can’t possibly recommend this show to you anymore than we already have, and we really really want to make sure you don’t miss this one. What type of show (and band) can possibly rival the mighty Jane’s Addiction for our must-see show of the month honors? That would be one of their former opening acts on the Theatre of the Escapists tour, Black Box Revelation and their shows at Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco and The Troubadour in LA. They’ll be opening for The Sheepdogs this time around and while we wish they were getting the top billing and the most stage time, we won’t complain too much. Black Box Revelation are here- and we don’t mean just here in the United States on tour. They are officially here to stay in the American music scene as a rock n’ roll duo that you just have to see and hear. On Monday they made their network television debut on American late night television. Shaking hands with David Letterman after playing the Tonight Show is second to getting an invite from Barack Obama to have a beer at the White House with him. “The Rave? Oh, you’ll have a blast at that dump.” That’s how the teenage girl working the front desk at our hotel sold the legendary Milwaukee venue to Rabbits Black. But she said the word “dump” with such . . . I don’t want to say affection . . . more of a fond recollection of stories she could never share. Almost a year ago, Black Box Revelation went into the studio in Los Angeles with one of our favorites musicians and producers, Alain Johannes. From these recording sessions, Black Box Revelation came away with My Perception, their excellent album from 2011. Produced by Alain Johannes, the album is one of the best of this year. Most websites would probably put Beady Eye as the lead band in this post, but not us. We’ll be in attendance at The Wiltern show to obviously catch a listen to Liam Gallagher’s Beady Eye, but we will really be there for the opening act Black Box Revelation. The Belgian duo has been gaining fans overseas at an increasing rate, and now it’s the States that get a listen. In support of Beady Eye, this is Black Box Revelation’s first proper US tour.
