Alessandro Cortini is a busy man. In the span of 12 months he released his first solo project as SONOIO, followed it up with a full remix album, and this past summer released his second full release! In case he hadn’t done enough, he decided to go on tour for the first time as SONOIO with Ladytron this fall. Alessandro took some time out for us while on the road to answer a few questions about why he felt the time was right to tour, and what to expect from the live experience.
Rabbits Black (RB): You’ve been releasing music as SONOIO since September of last year. What made you decide now was the right time to bring the music live on tour?
Alessandro Cortini (AC): After experimenting with Direct to Fan campaigns from home, it seemed necessary to see how much of an impact Touring would have on SONOIO as a business model. I limited most of my previous campaigns to the studio/online environment, and it’s very interesting to see how shows are impacting and changing the results. It is also amazing to get a great response every night from old and new fans… I am very lucky.
RB: Did the opportunity to play with Ladytron factor into the decision to tour now?
AC: Definitely: they are both good friends and artists i admire, so it was very easy to say yes to their offer!
RB: How many musicians will be joining you on stage? Are you handling all of the music abilities?
AC: 6 light bulbs, a rope light, a MacBook Air and a Teenage Engineering OP-1. That’s the band.
RB: It’s a short tour, but are there any specific dates, venues or cities you are more excited to play?
AC: All of them , really. I am looking forward to seeing how the show translates on different stages, in order to be able to go home and add to it, if necessary.
AC: I will be selling a Tour only t-shirt design, and the reprinted editions of both Blue and Red on CD.
