Hope you weren’t looking forward to a quiet Tuesday night, Los Angeles, because if Michael Gira and his merry men of Swans have anything to do with it, it’s going to be a very, very loud night. Between closing out the Gobi stage at both Saturdays of Coachella, Swans is swooping into the El Rey Theatre to play us some Swans songs! The band is coming off of last year’s triple-LP release To Be Kind, which cleaned up pretty damn well with the blogosphere with a Metacritic score of 88. You might not be able to recommend these guys to your Meemaw, but anyone who appreciates intense, patient, and most especially loud guitars will want to show up to the El Rey this Tuesday.
Opening for Swans is Angel Olsen who, while certainly not as old or musically punishing as the headliner, managed to find herself on lots of Best Albums of 2014 lists alongside Swans. Together, they should make for a great show that could only occur as a Localchella gig. Just be sure to bring ear plugs.
