Now in it’s fourth year, the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival is coming to the Bay Area and Los Angeles in September- stopping by Shoreline in Mountain View and then the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine two days later. This year the one-day festival boasts it’s most impressive lineup yet. Featuring two stages at most of the tour’s stops, the Main Stage is being graced by alternative rock legends Jane’s Addiction and Alice In Chains. Over on the Ernie Ball stage, you can catch Danko Jones and also Duff McKagan’s new band of the moment Walking Papers. Eight other bands round-out the festival that gets started in the early afternoon for one day of rock and roll. We’re going for Jane’s of course, but there’s something there for almost everyone. It looks like Alice In Chains is scheduled to headline this bad boy, and while we usually would be OK with that, no one (not even Trent Reznor) plays after Jane’s Addiction. Regardless, Jane’s Addiction with Alice in Chains in the same day is more alternative rock than most major music festivals are willing to give you these days. If you needed to get away from the indie scene for a day this summer, UPROAR will do that for you. I know, a Rockstar Energy Drink music festival in Irvine sounds like a bro-fest beyond belief, but cheers to UPROAR for getting serious about putting some real bands on stage this year (past headliners included Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed and Shinedown).
Jane’s Addiction only scheduled stop in LA this Fall is with the Rockstar UPROAR Festival.
UPROAR will be a one day festival experience, so bands get started early in the afternoon at 2:50 PM. You may need to take work off a little early to make it for the full experience. The full schedule is below, and you’ll notice that Jane’s has a slotted 1 hour set time and Alice In Chains gets ten minutes more than that. Let’s hope that UPROAR extends those times by about a half hour- an hour long set isn’t even enough time to get through Navarro’s guitar solo during “Three Days”. If the bands get ample time to do their thing and put on a spirited show, this one might surprise us in a summer that has seen its fair share of amazing shows and festivals. The nice thing about it, you can get an actual seat for $20 with all the fees included. UPROAR is going for the bargain play here, and as long as the bands don’t give us the bargain variety show, we’re in to see what its all about.
