Just as the weather starts heating up, so does the new music! English rock and roll trio Little Barrie is set to hit the stage at the Bootleg Bar in LA on May 24th. Barrie is coming off the release of their latest album King of the Waves on February 28, 2012 via Tummy Touch Records. They bring a stripped down, catchy, garage style rock straight from the big stages in England and Japan to our LA backyard. Check out a few tracks after the jump and try them out for yourselves!
The band’s last release was 5 years ago, but they’ve kept themselves busy. They’ve played with the likes of Primal Scream and collaborated with the likes of Morrissey and Mark Ronson. Despite the long wait for new material from barrie, King of the Waves seems to definitely be worth the wait. Guitarist/frontman Barrie Cadogan and bassist/vocalist Lewis Wharton are joined on the album by the new addition of drummer/vocalist Virgil Howe, son of renowned Yes guitarist Steve Howe.
This is seriously how they describe their music: “The resulting sound produced by the band is as intensely electrifying as one might expect from such a dynamic and in-demand group of individuals. It calls to mind an old school Detroit rock ‘n’ roll showdown between Link Wray and The Creation, with the MC5 and Motown’s best in attendance to cheer both sides, and the omnipresent threat of a killer wave lurking just overhead.” Alright fellas, you had me with “Detroit rock ‘n’ roll showdown!”
This could be the Thursday night rock show you’ve been looking for. Check out a few tracks from King of the Waves below and see them out at the Bootleg Bar May 24!
