Genre-splitting musician Daniel Bedingfield is back after 8 years of protracted contractual disputes with his former record label. Now he back, on his own, and he is putting out EPs left and right. He released the single “Rocks Off” in March followed by the EP “Stop the Traffik – Secret Fear,” and now he has two more EPs due out in 2012. I guess over the past 8 years he’s collected some new music! He is playing at Cafe du Nord on September 29, check out some of his new music and ticket information below, and let us know what you think!
At RB we’re always supporters of second chances, especially when an artist has languished as long as Bedingfield has. Also, his DIY attitude on his current releases is inspiring. His new material is all reportedly recorded on his M Box in bathtubs, state parks, parking lots, hotels and studios all over the world. He has formerly had 6 top-10 UK singles, so the man knows how to write songs.
He described his struggles himself: “The record company simply wanted me to keep repeating the same formula. If I’d done that, it would have sounded massively dated the moment it came out. Music has to be dangerous. You have to be mortally terrified of everyone hating it, or you’re not doing the right thing. So I don’t mind failure. What I do mind is being stuck in a cage for eight years.”
Tickets are $12 and can be purchased here.
