We are all about doing a good thing with good music. Brent Mendoza, our good friend at The Viper Room, is doing just that on February 17th. Celebrate Brent’s birthday bash at The Viper Room with four bands: I Will Never Be The Same, 8MM, Omniflux, and Into The Presence. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
Tickets for this event are available from The Viper Room. All proceeds will benefit this great cause, and Brent has lined up a huge amount of music for your ears. Tickets are still available, and for only $10! You can pick them up here: Brent Mendoza Benefit Show $10.
We spoke with Brent about how this all came together, and here is what he had to say:
Rabbits Black: How did you select this lineup?
Brent Mendoza: I simply went after all my favorites… and I think this may be the first time I’ve ever booked a show, and gotten confirmations from every single band I wanted. Fortunately they all happen to be friends, and people I’ve previously worked with in some capacity; so my personal relationships, and the fact that it’s a charity event helped seal the deals. Super excited about this lineup!
Rabbits Black: What made you go for the charity show aspect?
Brent Mendoza: I used to do my own nights at The Viper Room, as well as a number of other clubs/venues. I got out of booking a few years ago, simply because it’s a monumental pain in the ass, with too little reward for the effort and hours put in… So the last few years, I’ve been putting on a show once a year for my birthday; simply because I want to have a good time, and watch bands that I love. Since these shows have never really been about the money, I figured that this year, the profits might as well go to a worthwhile cause, instead of just going to buying another round.
Rabbits Black: Any special reason for selecting the Children’s Hospital besides the fact that it’s a great charity and organization?
Brent Mendoza: Children’s Hospital Los Angeles is a cause very close to my heart. When I was really young, my cousin, who was around my same age, passed away from leukemia. Myself and my family spent a lot of time at CHLA, while he was receiving treatment, and ever since we’ve continued to make an annual contribution in his name.
Rabbits Black: What was your best birthday party besides this one coming up?
Brent Mendoza: Hmmm, that’s a tough one… Last year was pretty festive–I booked a bunch of bands at Crazy Girls. Hard not to have a good time with a combination of bands, bikinis, and booze!
