Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears are bringing “Booty City” to The Echoplex 11/11. This Austin, TX band has been touring tirelessly for their 2011 album Scandalous, and in their short 4 year existence they have played pretty much every major music festival including Bonnaroo, SXSW, Coachella, Outside Lands, and Sasquatch. Black Joe Lewis gives us a modern twist on the great blues rock of the 1960’s. His sound is part Rolling Stones, part Robert Johnson, part James Brown, and part Parliament Funkadelic. Check out more, including some of their music, after the jump.
It’s the kind of Blues, Soul, Funk, and Rock and Roll mix that would have taken over the airwaves 30 years ago and it is delivered to us today with the kind of raw energy that will make everyone in the room stand up and move. Lewis tells us how he sees it: “I’m just an old-style blues fan, and I’m tryin’ to do that kind of thing with it.” Lewis channels his favorites, the likes of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Junior Kimbrough, Elmore James, Howlin’ Wolf and Magic Sam.
Tickets are on sale now here for only $15. Check out the video below of the first track off Scandalous, “Livin’ In the Jungle”:
