Show Alert: A Great Big Pile Of Leaves w/ Into It. Over It. and The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die 2/1

AGBPOL

Brooklyn’s A Great Big Pile of Leaves (AGBPOL) has traipsed all across the east coast and mid-west touring in support of their sophomore album You’re Always On My Mind. In addition to all the requisite Elvis puns that have run through my head, I was – more importantly – starting to wonder if AGBPOL was playing geographical favorites, ignoring us out west? There will be no need for pouting, because the band has finally announced a nationwide tour that bring them to the west coast for the first time in support of the album, with a February 1 show in Los Angeles at The Echo.

There’s no pretense about the band – it’s difficult when the first song on their album quibbles over the frustration of hunger meeting a lack of late-night eateries. Not to mention when the album’s cover art features (you guess edit) food drawings worthy of a pretentious grade-schooler. But all that’s ok, in fact it’s part of their charm. AGBPOL isn’t slick, they won’t cover you, awash in synths. Instead they’ll deliver solid indie rock songs, with a homespun intimacy owed to their Brooklyn locale. The kinds of songs which seem to have been swallowed whole up by the ‘90s. But bare midriffs are totally back, guys – I swear I read it in an issue of Mother Jones the Urban Outfitters catalog.

A Great Big Pile of Leaves will be be making their 2013 debut in LA in support of Chicago’s Into It. Over It, and some additional support for Topshelf labelmates, The World Is A Beautiful Place and I Am No Longer Afraid to Die. Full list of tour dates below. The band played a release show to a sold-out hometown crowd at Studio at Webster Hall in July so be sure check them out when they finally hit L.A.
