If you’ve been listening to the Global DJ Broadcast (one of the world’s best weekly trance radio shows) for the past few years, you are most definitely familiar with Mr. Pit. Known by his friends as Adrian Ivan, Mr. Pit has been leaving his mark across the electronic dance music scene for over 5 years. It was in 2008 with his breakthrough track “Shana” that everyone was forced to take serious note of the talented Romanian DJ and producer. Mr. Pit returns to Los Angeles this Saturday, May 5th at Circus Disco. Check out our exclusive interview with Adrian as he preps for only his second show in the United States ever!
Rabbits Black (RB): Congrats on being one of the first artists signed to the newly formed Schulz Music Group! How did you end up meeting Markus and getting to this point?
Mr. Pit: Thank you! We worked together since 2007 when I sent him my track ‘Isolarium’. He decided to put it out on his Coldharbour Selection vinyl series. Shortly after, the release was followed by the launching of more tracks such as ‘More Manners Please’, ‘Superstition’ and my breakthrough track called ‘Shana’ which was a huge success during 2008 and the following years. Since I was signed to Coldharbour, the label released over 20 tracks under Mr. Pit guise including probably the most successful track from me ‘Sky Traffic’. This collaboration, in the long term, strengthened our musical relationship. In 2011 he called me to make the proposal of joining his new artist management company Schulz Music Group. This officially crowned our tight collaboration during the years and I’m very proud and happy with it.
(RB): As an emerging artist, what makes working with Markus unique and special? What does he bring to the table for new artists that other producers and DJs cannot?
Mr. Pit: Besides that he was the first top EDM artist who believed in me as a producer, I quickly understood that his musical sense is very similar with mine. He’s an open minded DJ/producer and I am too. I always felt his suggestions and ideas were fitting perfectly and that they were complimenting mine. Being able to change your ideas is one of the most constructive parts in music writing/producing. I feel privileged to work with him.

(RB): You are one of the most experienced artists on the decks in the Schulz Music Group. Are you a mentor to other DJs and artists as well?
Mr. Pit: Every step in my career is a new beginning, and I’m still considering myself at the beginning, and still have to improve and learn many things. Even though I think I’m not in the position of being a mentor to other music lovers, I would be happy to share my experiences to open minded producers and DJs.
(RB): Your live United States debut was during the Los Angeles ‘12 Compilation release show at the Avalon in February. What was that experience like?
Mr. Pit: It was an honor to play a back to back set with Markus at his compilation release party. The whole weekend in LA was an incredible experience, two nights full of music and passionate crowds. I could see how powerful the electronic dance movement is in the City of Angels!
(RB): How did the US crowd and experience differ from your other live sets around the world?
Mr. Pit: Before my US debut, I was a little bit nervous knowing that I would be playing for the first time in Los Angeles and the crowd has big expectations. I also expected great reactions and massive feedback during and after my set and everything was beyond my expectations. It’s more proof that EDM in the US is big and getting better and better.
(RB): You are from Romania. What’s the state of EDM and trance music there?
Mr. Pit: Over the past years a lot of singers and producers had risen in the electronic dance scene. Everybody points their attention to the hot Romanian acts especially singers. Even though the trance scene in Romania is growing up, I think there’s a lot of room for improvement.
(RB): What tracks should we be on the look out for this Saturday at Circus? What are the crowd movers? Any live debuts of tracks coming this weekend?
Mr. Pit: This is my second coming to LA, and more than that I will play a 3-4 hours longer set, that’s enough to make it really special! I will try to surprise the audience in my sets with some of my “weapons” no matter if it is an exclusive track I play, a new Mr. Pit track, or a mashup- therefore this time I will make no exceptions!
(RB): Thank you for your time and welcome back to California! Adrian was recently featured in DJ Mag’s May issue and gave readers his Top 10 tracks for the month. You can check that out below, and make sure to see Mr. Pit this Saturday at Circus on Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles. Pre-sale tickets are still available at this link for only $15.
