How big is the smile on Perry Farrell’s face this morning? Even though the 2012 Lollapalooza lineup was effectively leaked yesterday, today the festival put the final stamp of approval on a lineup that trumps every major US festival so far this year. While Coachella boasts an extremely deep lineup, and Bonnaroo features some amazing exclusives like The Beach Boys, Black Star and Puscifer, the Chicago-based Lollapalooza features the one band NO ONE could get in the United States- Black Sabbath! Full lineup after the jump.
Perry Farrell got it right with Lollapalooza 2012. Heavy at the top with exclusives in Jack White and Black Sabbath, rounded out by The Red Chili Peppers and Black Keys who were playing the other two major festivals. Perry promised more electronic dance music this year, and he provided in spades: Bassnectar, Avicii, Kaskade, Calvin Harris, NERO and more. The bottom of the lineup is a little thin, but that’s part of the fun of festivals- seeing someone perform you have never seen before. But to get Black Sabbath to commit to Lollapalooza as their only US appearance after the unfortunate news of Tony Iommi’s battle with cancer, is something only Perry Farrell could pull off. He did, and at only $230 (more than $100 less than other festivals), Lollapalooza is the must-attend festival of the year.
