Confession time: I am a rocker at heart. I like to rock out. And I like to recommend acts that I know will have you rocking out as well. So while we’ve covered a lot of rock and funk and even some electro pop in the Life is Beautiful Primer series, I’ve left a lot of the mellower electro stuff out. Here’s a quick rundown of some of the electronic artists we’ve enjoyed most in our research. Enjoy the brevity, as this is not my area of expertise. Club kids, this one’s for you!
Room8
This LA duo creates deliciously lush electronic soundscapes that will make you feel like you’re cruising through Sin City on a hot night in the 80s. They play Saturday on the Art of Beer Draught Pavilion from 2-3 PM.
Another LA native, the enigmatic Jean Raw is building a reputation for his remixes but has a solid background making beautiful House music influenced by his world travels. Take a listen and then check him out on Sunday from 1-2 PM at the Art of Beer Draught Pavilion.
Treasure Fingers
Disco! The good kind. Saturday from 8-9 in the Art of Beer Draught Pavilion.
CC Sheffield
Mega clubby aggressive dub steppy….ok, so not my thing, but if you dig Markus Schulz you will love this DJ and vocal powerhouse who just signed with Ultra Records. She plays the Art of Beer Draught Pavilion Sunday from 3-4PM.
Five Knives
There are four people in this electro-punk band from Nashville. In-your-face party music to dance offensively to. Miley and her “Wrecking Ball” don’t have shit on these kids. On the Red Bull Records label, find them playing Sunday at 1:05 PM on the Ambassador Stage. There will be broken things around.
STS9
“How big can a band with no vocals get?” – Me, circa 2009.
STS9 is an electronic jam band whose sound combines funk, jazz, drum and bass, psychadelia and hip hop. They have their own record label and a huge cult following (silly 2009-era me). They are deeply steeped in Mayan mysticism and emphasize “spirituality, equality, and the freeing of musical egos” meaning that, unlike with other jam bands, you won’t hear any individual solos during their shows. See them Sunday at 6:30 PM on the Ambassador Stage.
