Our latest installment in the RB Coachella Primer series is all about The Horrors! And after Coachella you might be all about them too. Granted, The Horrors aren’t for everyone. They are are an English goth/post-punk band formed in Southend on Sea in 2005. They are heavily influenced by bands such as Bauhaus and The Jesus and Mary Chain, but they have a sound all their own. The Horrors are just starting to hit the mainstream, so this is your chance to see them on the cusp. Like The Black Keys last year, we could be seeing The Horrors quickly shooting up that Coachella lineup. Check out a little more about The Horrors and listen to some of their music after jump!
The band is comprised of Faris Badwan – vocals; Joshua Hayward – guitar; Tom Cowan – synthesizer, bass; Rhys Webb – bass, organs; and Joe Spurgeon – drums. They have released three albums: 2007’s Strange House, 2009’s Primary Colours, and 2011’s Skying. Each successive album has seen a progression from raw and brooding to much more polished, powerful, and well … still brooding. Their latest album Skying has received significant critical acclaim and reached the #5 spot on the UK charts.
The Horrors have caught the eyes of several great bands, which is an indication of the kind of sound they have. They opened for the Arctice Monkeys and Florence & the Machine, were set to open for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and will be playing a show with The Black Angels on the Wednesday in between the two Coachella weekends. Its all leather jackets, messy hair, and powerful music.
The Horrors are playing on Friday at Coachella, so go check them out!
Also, you can see them @ Bimbos in San Francisco April 16,17.
