Album Review: Portugal. The Man – In the Mountain in the Cloud

Releasing at least one album every year is not an easy thing to do for a band with a sound as complex as Portugal. The Man.  It takes time and detail to orchestrate a complete album of harmony and musical tapestry.  It was clear from the music videos that were available before the release that the band was aiming high with their 2011 offering.  So with their latest album, does Portugal. Album Review: Incubus – If Not Now, When?

When I listened to Incubus, I used to be inspired, put at ease, thrown into harmonious music bliss, and lyrically enlightened. That is actually pretty deep and very serious to say about any experience in life. Incubus really used to do all that for me. I would wake up on a Sunday morning and have a yearning for great songs like “11am,” “Southern Girl,” “Talk Shows On Mute,” “Mexico,” “Nice To Know You,” “Aqueous Transmissions,” “Are You In,” “Dig,” and who could forget that all time love making classic in “Stellar.” I could go on and on… That music is great.

Album Review: Frank Turner – England Keep My Bones

English singer-songwriter Frank Turner released his 4th studio album, England Keep My Bones, on June 7, produced by Tristan Ivemy in London. This follow-up to 2009’s Poetry of the Deed marks another step in Turner’s evolution into a polished rock/folk singer-songwriter. Despite his roots in the English hardcore punk scene, Turner has been able to transition very effectively into his new role as a melodic, lyrical, and unabashedly nationalistic artist. (more…)

Album Review: Arctic Monkeys – Suck It and See

The Arctic Monkeys released their 4th album, Suck It and See, on June 7, produced by James Ford at Sound City Studios in LA. The Monkeys make a return from the heavy California desert influence imbued by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme who produced the Monkeys’ 2009 album Humbug. This new album brings back some of the Monkey’s live sound that propelled their 2006 debut album Whatever You Say I am, That’s What I’m Not. (more…)

Album Review: Dredg – Chuckles and Mr. Squeezy

This review is not going to be pretty- let me get that out of the way first.  It’s almost difficult to say a lot about this album, because the album doesn’t give a lot back to the listener to even digest.  Dredg has always been a band that relied on its dedicated, albeit small, fanbase for publicity and praise.  The band has never had much commercial success, regardless of the fact that their last album (The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion) could have easily been a hit with listeners all over the world if it just reached their ears.  (more…)
