A guide for Californians attending Lollapalooza in Chicago

Lollapalooza is consistently one of the premier music festivals in North America.  With it’s unique location at Grant Park in the heart of Chicago, Lollapalooza is one of the only major music festival in the country that actually takes place within the true metropolitan area of a major city.  With rockstar visionary Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction as the founder and organizer of the festival, Lollapalooza has always attracted an eclectic mix of rock, electronic, and indie.  Lollapalooza was friendly to the Electronic Dance Music scene way before many of the festivals that now embrace it.  On a yearly basis Farrell recruits arguably the best headliners of any festival.  This year is no different, with the state-side return of Nine Inch Nails, Mumford and Sons, and the only summer festival appearance by The Cure.  Lollapalooza is a must-attend for music fans around the country, but how can Californians make it out to Illinois to get in on the fun?  We have everything you need right here in our guide for Californians traveling to Lollapalooza. It’s getting real awesome in Queens of the Stone Age land.  We are less than one month from the release of their new album Like Clockwork… and it’s scheduled June 4th release.  Rabbits Black’s most anticipated album of 2013 lands right on time to kick off a summer that will be soaked in rock n’ roll.  Queens of the Stone Age have released another song from the album today in video from.  “I Appear Missing” is the second song to be leaked by the band- following “My God Is The Sun” last month.  Checked out the visual treat that oozes everything you love about Queens. Ten minutes past 11 PM… anticipation feels the historic Hollywood Palladium.  Fans are anxiously awaiting Crystal Castles’ sold out return to the 3,700 person capacity venue.  Less than six months ago the Canadian electronic duo played to another packed crowd, and that show only helped to build the hype around tonight’s engagement.  With the artwork to their latest album (III) covering the back of the stage, the lights slowly pulsated and dimmed over the crowd.  Smoke enveloped the audience, obscuring the presence of front woman Alice Glass on stage.  The other half of Crystal Castles, Ethan Kath, stepped out of the shadows to his standing keyboard.  The bass kicked in, the huge colored spotlights poured over the crowd, and the outstanding track “Plague” from their new album screamed through the Palladium. Show Alert: Markus Schulz @ Avalon 5/12 – second date added

Markus Schulz’ Scream Bus Tour finally comes to California where it all started at ETD POP in Oakland a few months ago.  The tour hits San Diego on May 8th and May 9th for two shows down south.  Rabbits Black and our friends at EVNTLIVE are giving away two tickets to those shows along with a special meet & greet with Markus.  You don’t want to miss that contest!  But for Los Angeles fans things have been looking bleak since Markus’ Avalaon date sold out days after it was announced.  Popular demand can change things like this though, as Markus has added a second show on Sunday at the Avalon to the tour! Outside Lands releases stellar 2013 Lineup – Paul McCartney, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers to headline

So what music festival in California booked the most impressive headliners this year?  It’s a competition between BottleRock in Napa and Outside Lands in San Francisco.  Outside Lands released their 2103 lineup today, and it’s packed with the type of eclectic music and bands that fit the Bay Area perfectly.  Want that one headliner you can’t see at any other festival this year?  Paul McCartney.  Two huge iconic bands that would be headliners anywhere in the world?  Nine Inch Nails and Red Hot Chili Peppers.  And that’s just at the top.  Throughout the lineup you will find artists who are not playing any other festivals: Willie Nelson, Gary Clark Jr., Kaskade, even Hall and Oates (yes, that Hall and Oates).  Check out the goodness here! Rabbits Black Guide to Saturday at Coachella

We’ve updated our Saturday guide after Weekend 1 just so we don’t make any of the same mistakes twice.  We still feel like Saturday is the weakest lineup of the three days, but that’s a good excuse to show up late and enjoy all that Coachella offers outside of its gates.  Find a pool, maybe even a pool party, and enjoy the time with old and new friends.  Just try to keep it together to make it inside at some point.  Here’s our guide to Saturday.
