Show Alert: Rockstar UPROAR Festival featuring Jane’s Addiction & Alice In Chains

Now in it’s fourth year, the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival is coming to the Bay Area and Los Angeles in September- stopping by Shoreline in Mountain View and then the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine two days later.  This year the one-day festival boasts it’s most impressive lineup yet.  Featuring two stages at most of the tour’s stops, the Main Stage is being graced by alternative rock legends Jane’s Addiction and Alice In Chains.  Over on the Ernie Ball stage, you can catch Danko Jones and also Duff McKagan’s new band of the moment Walking Papers.  Eight other bands round-out the festival that gets started in the early afternoon for one day of rock and roll.  We’re going for Jane’s of course, but there’s something there for almost everyone.  Check out the full details and ticket links on both shows! Lollapalooza Interview: Alex Watson of Rivals of the Peacemaker

Rivals of the Peacemaker will get classified as Americana folk, but don’t just write them off as another band in a genre that is already packed with radio favorites and sing along hopefuls.  The Chicago four piece is made up of an interesting husband and wife duo that brings their differing musical tastes together to make the sound of Rivals of the Peacemaker.  Take a listen to “I’m Gone” and the vocal melodies of singer Alex Watson will remind you of classic country songstresses, but a few minutes in and you are greeted with a one minute long guitar solo from Billy Watson.  And so it is for Rivals of the Peacemaker, balancing the musical tastes of Alex and Billy Watson to create a new sound that embodies American folk with the way they see it fit.  We caught up with the Chicago band before a few days before their Sunday performance at Lollapalooza.  Check out the interview here! Best of Lollapalooza 2013: The Aftershows, Parties and Experience (Part 3)

Even though the bands stopped playing at 10 PM every night, Lollapalooza didn’t end there.  Aftershows and parties scattered throughout the city kept the music and vibe going late into the night in Chicago.  It’s hard to pick the very best of Lollapalooza when so many moments, artists, and events were great.  It’s even harder when the aftershows take on a life of their own at the festival!  It’s one of the things that makes Lollapalooza so unique and special as a festival.  It’s more than 10 hours at Grant Park, it’s a full experience embodied by the spirit of the festival and the city of Chicago.  Here is our Best of Lollapalooza 2013: aftershows, parties and experiences. Best of Lollapalooza 2013: Review in Pictures (Part 2)

Lollpalaooza took over downtown Chicago once again this past weekend for three days of live music from around the world.  Festival goers were treated to live music from new artists and bands that they had never heard of before, while old fans flocked to see their iconic bands play one of the big stages in North America.  Over 100,000 fans packed Grant Park in Chicago everyday to discover new music and appreciate the music they already knew they loved.  It was a gathering of music aficionados from around the world, and Lollapalooza delivered on a grand scale.  Music festivals are about the experience, about being there in the sun and at night, feeling the energy of the band and the crowd.  While pictures can’t do Lollapalooza 2013 the justice it deserves, it at least gives us somewhere to start when trying to convey just how amazing of a weekend of music it was. Best of Lollapalooza 2013: The Music Festival (Part 1)

Lollapalooza 2013 was the summer festival to be at this year- there’s no doubt about it, Lolla lived up to the immense hype it brought upon itself with a stellar lineup and pedigree to match.  When the 2013 lineup was officially announced on April 1st, Perry Farrell’s three day music festival was immediately tagged as the “must attend” summer event of 2013 by us.  The headliners were the perfect mix of current indie favorites and long-standing genre defining icons.  The bands throughout the day ranged from electronic solo acts, four piece folk bands, DJs in inflatable bubbles, surf punk rockers, to guitar slaying maniacs.  And it all took place with the gorgeous backdrop of downtown Chicago on one side and Lake Michigan on the other.  Picking the best from over 130 live acts was no easy task, any many more deserve to be recognized for their performances, but we still had to select the very best of Lollapalooza 2013.  Here we go!  (more…)
