When you get good people together, for a good cause for the right reasons, you can make a positive impact on this world. That is something we believe in at Rabbits Black, and with our good friends at Vestal and a moving performance from Alain Johannes, together we were able to make a positive impact on the music community. The support we showed on that day raised money to help Brian O’Connor from the Eagles of Death Metal in his fight against cancer. It’s not every day that you get to see a musician as talented as Alain Johannes play such a small an intimate show. Alain had toured the world as one of the core musical contributors to Queens of the Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures. When he released his solo album Spark, he was quickly on the road playing this material for fans around the world. He played shows opening for Gogol Bordello, a challenging experience that ultimately allowed him to bring the material of Spark to ears that probably would have never heard it. While Spark is a masterpiece in emotion and musical tribute, the material feels most at home in a small and intimate live setting. O’Briens on Main St. in Santa Monica provided that setting with a packed room of over 100 people who came to support a great cause and see Alain perform- they left with memories and experiences that they couldn’t have imagined beforehand. Not only did the crowd get heartfelt performances from Spark, but they were also treated to “Making A Cross” from the Dessert Sessions and “Hangin’ Tree” from Songs For The Deaf. And if you didn’t know already, Alain possess some of the most mesmerizing guitar-work you have ever seen:
The music and scene was unparalleled, and the people who came to see Alain and support this cause were treated to a unique event without doubt. But the real beauty in the whole day was that while everyone enjoyed themselves, we were raising money for Brian O’Connor at the same time. O’Briens was generous enough to donate a significant portion of bar sales to the cause which was the basis for the fundraising. Vestal Watch (who also happens to make the most rad eye wear on the market) was also in on the action, donating some killer pieces for raffle. Do this guy look pretty stoked? Ya, I think so!
Thanks once again to everyone who came out, and please continue to support the amazing people who were involved in making this happen. We have a secret for you- we are going to be doing this again, real soon. So keep an eye out. We’ll be raising money and helping people out anyway we can with amazing music, bands and a party for you to enjoy. You can see all of the professional pictures from this event right here: A Day Party feat. Alain Johannes. You can also continue to support Brian O’Connor on the EODM Donation Page. We’ll see you all again soon.
