It feels like summer in California and Rabbits Black is kicking off the best season on this side of the coast with a show that brings together two of our favorite rock n’ roll bands. Zodiac Death Valley and The Sister Ruby Band get together on June 15th for our welcome to summer party in Santa Monica. What better way to get into the groove than a Westside show a few blocks from the beach. The show is free to attend, and your spot in the music room at O’Briens is reserved with an RSVP. The Queens of the Stone have a new album, a new tour, and are playing NEXT WEEK for all you Los Angelinos! The band just announced a show at the Wiltern Theater next Thursday night, tickets on sale at 11am! They didn’t make us wait long, and for that, we thank them! Memorial Day weekend plans getting packed? With only two weeks to go until the big weekend kickoff to the summer, the Los Angeles music and party scene is filling up quick. If house parties and rock music is your thing, we have the show for you on Memorial Day weekend Sunday. Starting at 6 PM you can catch some of LA’s favorite local punk and hardcore bands at a unique house party location. Obliterations, the new hardcore outfit fronted by Sam James Velde (Bluebird, Night Horse) will be performing live for the first time. It only takes $5 to get you in. Ten minutes past 11 PM… anticipation feels the historic Hollywood Palladium. Fans are anxiously awaiting Crystal Castles’ sold out return to the 3,700 person capacity venue. Less than six months ago the Canadian electronic duo played to another packed crowd, and that show only helped to build the hype around tonight’s engagement. With the artwork to their latest album (III) covering the back of the stage, the lights slowly pulsated and dimmed over the crowd. Smoke enveloped the audience, obscuring the presence of front woman Alice Glass on stage. The other half of Crystal Castles, Ethan Kath, stepped out of the shadows to his standing keyboard. The bass kicked in, the huge colored spotlights poured over the crowd, and the outstanding track “Plague” from their new album screamed through the Palladium. (more…)
Markus Schulz’ Scream Bus Tour finally comes to California where it all started at ETD POP in Oakland a few months ago. The tour hits San Diego on May 8th and May 9th for two shows down south. Rabbits Black and our friends at EVNTLIVE are giving away two tickets to those shows along with a special meet & greet with Markus. You don’t want to miss that contest! But for Los Angeles fans things have been looking bleak since Markus’ Avalaon date sold out days after it was announced. Coachella 2013 is in the books. We went into the festival this year with a ton of questions and some doubts. The headliners didn’t floor us, and with other festivals around the nation and in California booking some pretty amazing bands, we were skeptical. But then we experienced two weekends of music in the Coachella Valley, and it all made sense yet again. Coachella is about the sun, the valley, the music and the people. If you didn’t have a good time, you did something wrong. We went into Saturday thinking it was a pretty weak lineup, and we came out with some of our favorite shows of the weekend. When HARD launched it’s first summer music festival in 2008 it was a one day event at the Shrine Expo in Los Angeles. We’ve been attending and following the festival since it’s inception, and we are proud to say that the little one day summer music festival that started in LA has grown to be one of the most eclectic and dance heavy weekends in the country. HARD Summer 2013 at Los Angeles Historic Park packs the best lineup in the festival’s history into two days of electronic and dance music bliss. (more…)
