The Icarus Line’s fifth studio album Slave Vows has been out for a few weeks now. We’ll have a review up here soon, but if you’re a fan of The Icarus Line then you know the live experience is where it’s really at. The Hootenanny has become a 4th of July weekend staple in Orange County. Featuring punk rock and rockabilly acts from around the country, the festival tends to put a California legend at the top of the bill. Social Distortion will take those honors this year, headlining the 19th edition of the all-day music festival, car show and pin-up contest. This year’s Hootenanny is being sponsored by one of our favorite rock n’ roll bars- Johnny’s Saloon in Huntington Beach. Tomorrow night in Santa Monica we are bringing together two of our favorite bands on this coast. The Sister Ruby Band hail from Los Angeles, but their sound brings together the spirits of Americana rock n’ roll. Zodiac Death Valley are making the journey down the coast from San Francisco where they have been hailed as one of the city’s best local bands. With a special opening set by Jess Furman and a closing DJ set by Rabbits Black, all of it comes together tomorrow night in an intimate setting that promises fans a show that they’ll be able to feel and hear up close and personal. Even though they live in Los Angeles, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club made their first musical foray into beautiful Santa Ana (actually only 30 miles away) for a sold out show at The Observatory. “To be honest I didn’t even know where this place was,” Robert Been admitted to the crowd of 550 packed comfortably into the venue’s three GA tiers. Amazingly enough, Scott Weiland took the stage only 30 minutes after the scheduled 9:15 PM start time. Let’s be honest, no one really thought Scott and his new backing band The Wildabouts would actually make a 9:15 start on the Sunset Strip at the House of Blues. Not in LA, not Scott Weiland. That’s why the 30 minute tardiness was easily excused- and actually a pleasant surprise to some who probably thought they could show up at 11 PM and still be staring at curtains over the stage. This initial feeling summed up the night pretty well actually- some excusable moments that you just learn to live with because the highs can still be pretty damn satisfying. So it was at Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts performance on Wednesday night at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip. (more…)
Robert Been, Peter Hayes and Leah Shapiro make up one of rock n’ roll’s hardest working bands. Constantly touring and delivering quality albums, 2013 has been another amazing year for Black Rebel Motorcycle Club supporting their latest album Specter At The Feast. It’s been an emotional tour and album release following the death of Robert’s father Michael Been who was everything from producer, sound engineer, mentor, and father to the members of BRMC. This powerful run of live shows comes to a US conclusion on June 2nd at The Observatory in Santa Ana. (more…)
