Live Review: Refused @ The Warfield 4/18

What frequency are you getting? Is it noise or sweet, sweet music? We’re all dressed up, we’ve got somewhere to go! Refused party program! Boredom won’t get me tonight! CAN I SCREAM?! Refused are NOT fucking dead—and their show at the Warfield in San Francisco last night proved it. After a 14-year respite, the band is back despite their manifesto to the contrary. Even with the lapsed time, Dennis Lyxzen, David Sandstrom, Kristofer Steen, Jon Brannstrom, and Magnus Flagge still bring 100% to the stage. (more…)

Not to steal the thunder from what promises to be an unforgettable Coachella Weekend 2, but Ranger Dave announced this week a phenomenal lineup for the Fifth Anniversary of San Francisco’s Outside Lands! It’s difficult to top a line-up when your first ever appearance as a festival boasted the likes of Radiohead, Wilco, and Cake. For those of you music heads out there that live for the live performance, there are not many acts on the scene that FORCE emotional, mental, and visual stimuli on stage and in your face like Mr. Saul Williams. His newest full length album, Volcanic Sunlight, hit the shelves in November 2011 and this show falls smack dab in the middle of the North American leg of the corresponding tour. Looks like you have a little weekend homework for the next two weeks.  Sorry to bum you out with this news, but trust us when we say it’s worth it.  The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary tour is coming to you this summer, and tickets for the Hollywood Bowl and Berkeley Greek Theatre dates go on sale the next two weekends.  The chance to see the original Beach Boys shouldn’t be passed up for those of you who consider Pet Sounds to be one of the quintessential American rock albums of all time.  If you don’t feel that way, it’s OK.  Get on board and see the legends of California surf rock and the genius of Brian Wilson anyways- because you just know you should. The Rabbits Black staff can’t get enough of The Darkness and Foxy Shazam!  The Darkness on their return to rock tour with the party-starting Foxy opening?!  Ya, count us in for two nights!  So we just had to check out both shows so Rabbits Black could be in the building for the House of Blues Sunset show in Los Angeles and the Fillmore show in San Francisco.  We sent a dude to LA, and a chick to SF.  Get the dual perspective on these two shows in two cities from two different sets of eyes and ears.  The dual feature review is here! The Brian Jonestown Massacre announce new album and spring tour

It’s a good day in the San Francisco music scene when you get to announce that The Brian Jonestown Massacre are back.  The group was founded in the early 90s in San Francisco, and went on to achieve a cult following around their 12 studio albums.  On May 1st, the band will release their 13th LP, Aufheben.  Very little information has been released about the album, and we have yet to hear any songs from Aufheben.  The band will support their May release with a spring tour, which makes a stop at The Fillmore and Wiltern in May. Refused are NOT f-ing dead! And it seems the presumed Coachella no-show clause doesn’t extend to Northern California. That’s right, Bay Area! Refused are spending at least some of their time off between Coachella weekends in San Francisco. Just announced, the show will boast the support of The Hives and The Bronx. If you were one of the many would-be Coachella goers who couldn’t get passes, here’s your chance to check out two of the better acts on the festival bill.
